Equilibrium is one of the most overrated films of all time. Considering how fucking awful it was, I am shocked that it achieved cult status... then again, some morons will buy anything. If a lie is big enough, people will believe it, and Equilibrium is a huge shitty lie that tries to convince us it's a good film.
First of all, how does the director think that he can get off with blatantly ripping off Aldous Huxley and George Orwell? And then, the fucker is so arrogant, he thinks he can steal from The Matrix as well without anyone noticing. Uh, no, Wimmer. I didn't even like The Matrix, but everything Equilibrium attempts, The Matrix did it better first. And for that matter so did Nineteen Eighty-Four and Brave New World. Look at it this way:
Nineteen Eighty-Four: Dystopian future where people are controlled by what they fear.
Brave New World: Dystopian future where people are controlled by what they love.
Equilibrium: Dystopian future where people are controlled by... a gang of tools running around in trench coats and a hyped-up version of Prozac? Emotions have been outlawed! Omfg. Srsly. Then why the fuck do government officials give impassioned propaganda speeches? And how does Bale's character manage to convince his superiors he's still free of emotions by shouting "I am not feeling!" at them?
What a complete load.

Wasn't Vince McMahon a producer on the Rollerball remake? I believe so, considering with Paul Heyman and Shane-O-Mac both make appearances

How is Sideways underrated? It did well at the box office, with DVD sales, critics loved it, and it won awards. It was a good movie, but it's far from underrated.

Agreed 100%. A lost gem, and was Cheadle was dark comedy at it's best. Although, I'm going to have to agree with Of[as strange as it sounds] and say that Equilibrium was awful. Like Of said, the premise was retarded since they showed emotions quite frequently, and the action was nothing special.
As for an underrated movie, I'd like to add Identity. It stars John Cusack and Ray Liotta[one of the most underrated actors on the planet btw] It's a "who done it" about eleven people being stuck at a motel, and a serial killer is slowly picking them off. The twist ending is far better than anything the Sixth Sense or the Village could have produced.

A Room for Romeo Brass.
Paddy Considine's first ever acting role, that he plays to perfection. One of the funniest and down to earth movies I've ever had the pleasure of viewing. I've never heard anybody at all talk about in my life besides one of my friends.
Superb.

Mutant, you rock the casbah for mentioning this. This is one of my favorite films ever and it totally blows Matrix out of the water, as far as I'm concerned. Don't understand how it gets so much less attention. I think Dark City does have a cult following though. I mean its fairly critically praised, it deserves some kind of love. I'll add Igby Goes Down. I don't know, I liked it and thought it was clever, but it seemed to fall off the radar.

Jane, Igby Goes Down is a personal favourite of mine. Possibly due to it's obscurity and care free nature.
I also vote for Arizona Dream. My favourite film along with What's Eating Gilbert Grape. A simply tremendous story that's funny, quirky and uplifting. One of many magnificent Depp performances.

I wouldn't exactly call that one underrated. Most critics regard it as one of the best science fiction movies of all time, and I agree. It's a great movie, don't get me wrong, I just don't think it's really underrated.
But speaking of underrated, I have to say "Rad", one of my all time favorites. And if you know the movie, you know exactly what I'm talking about.

Good call Jane, I was quite surprised at how much I liked that movie. Bill Paxton did an excellent job in his directorial debut, and it was one of the few movies with a "twist" ending that actually got me.
