"Jason Voorhees Drowning in Camp Crystal Lake Get more on Friday The 13th | Posted 04.28.06 @ 01:05 pm ]
I’ve got some terrible, terrible news from the grapevine regarding New Line Cinema's latest entry in the Friday the 13th series, which was slated for an October release, with Platinum Dunes attached to produce. During a conversation with an insider I was informed that the Friday the 13th quasi-remake might be dead in the water, “Sadly, it seems like things are at a standstill because of rights issues.” That’s as much as I know at the moment, so keep your eyes peeled here for (hopefully) an update soon. Jonathan Liebesman was set to direct off a script by Mark Wheaton. The remake would have incorporated components of the films, though it is known that Jason would have worn the mask and will kill. The setting would have been that of the first movie, Crystal Lake. "
Oh well
"Roth's 'Bad Seed' Placed on the Backburner Get more on Warnerbros | Posted 04.27.06 @ 11:50 pm ]
Bad news for fans of The Bad Seed, the 1956 horror classic about a homicidal 8-year-old girl: A long-discussed remake of the flick is now on hold after the breakthrough success of "Hostel" writer/director Eli Roth, who is putting the flick on the backburner while he concentrates on other projects, according to MTV. "The problem is, I love 'Bad Seed,' but I just don't know how I'm gonna do everything," Roth said, citing plans to make a sequel to his recent hit. " 'Hostel' was originally going to be the movie that I was going to do between 'Bad Seed' and 'Cabin Fever.' ... I'd just go and do this little film for 4 million bucks. And then 'Hostel' opened at #1 and became the main focus. ... I love the project, and I'd love to do it, but at this point I don't want to stop [the studio] from making it. ... It's taking a back seat." 'Bad Seed' is being developed over at Warner Bros. Pictures. But who can complain as long as people like Roth are pumping new horror films into our veins every year "
I remember he said a few months ago that he wouldn't do major studio work. I'd rather see him do original films then remakes.

Good about the Friday the 13th news, that movie would've just been uber-lame as I've posted through the weeks.
Just saw Return of the Living Dead 4- Necropolis, and OM-FING-G, it was quite possibly the best worst fucking movie I've ever seen. It isn't EC orientated like the first 3 and is kinda like a super gory Resident Evil with the worst Teen acting in the world. The script is TERRIBLE, horrendous, painfull and HILARIOUS. There's actually a scene where they're told to make a left turn, and then they literally make a right without acknowledging the fuckup, it's amazing! There's cliches and terrible stereotypes throughout the film and during the "getting ready for battle" montage, I STAND ALONE by Godsmack plays, even though there's five people!!!
Fucking brutally fabulous! I also rented Englund's Maniacs movie, gonna sit down and watch it NOW!

Good, not great horror.
Some really eerie moments, but loses major points because it is really campy. Cliched and with some good gore and funny parts and some acutal names.
Eli Roth's the same character he is in Cabin Fever, but it takes away from the horror. It was good and had some moments, but nothing special. Awesome production values though and a great premise. Should've just been purely darker with less TNA slasher shit and more Texas Chainsaw vibes, it would've been an A+.
5 out of 10.

I would certainly rent it first.
Some good spots, but just really campy, when it coulda been a real hardcore chiller. Englund is great, and again, the production is TOP NOTCH, just very weak in some key areas. It's worth a shot on rental though, better than most horror movie's you get to chose from.

"Official Sequel to the 1931 'Dracula'? Get more on Vampire Movies | Posted 05.02.06 @ 04:44 pm ]
Here's some interesting news that sort of hit me on the side of the head. "Jan De Bont’s (MEG) Blue Tulip Productions has teamed with Atchity Entertainment on a new feature which represents the first officially sanctioned sequel to Bram Stoker’s 'Dracula,' " according to Fangoria. "Tentatively titled The Un-Dead, after the subtitle of Stoker’s original novel, the script was written by Ian Holt and is set 25 years after the book’s events. All the surviving protagonists—including Jonathan and Mina Harker and Professor Van Helsing—appear, along with Inspector Cotford, a character cut from the original manuscript, facing the bloodsucking Count once again. The Stoker family has officially recognized Holt’s screenplay—the first adaptation to receive such approval since the original 1931 Bela Lugosi-starring film. I'm huge on the first, so this might be interesting.
"Wall Talks 'Halloween' and 'Stranger Calls' Sequels Get more on Halloween | Posted 05.02.06 @ 11:34 pm ]
Big, big news tonight as the new horror go-to guy, Jake Wade Wall (Hitcher, When a Stranger Calls), spills all the beans on what he has been doing with the Halloween franchise. He reveals to Moviehole.net that the script being used right now is called Halloween: The Missing Years, which tackles what happened to Myers before he first escaped the mental institution as a younger. In addition to this big news, Wall also reveals that Sony Screen Gems has fast-tracked When a Stranger Calls 2 (yikes) and that the Akkads don't want to see Michael take on Freddy or Jason. Read on for the story...
It's been a long, long time since Michael Myers graced the big screen, and horror fans are in an uproar waiting for just a little something to cling on to... and here's a little something to get excited about. Moviehole writes:
“I’ve been hired three different times for it”, says Wade Wall, of the ninth “Halloween” movie (at one stage titled Halloween Retribution). “And at times it was really exciting, and at other times, it really wasn’t. Then, with the whole Miramax debacle, everything kind of stopped on their franchises for a while. Having said that, it looks like it’s finally set to go. “I know that they’re in the process of nailing down a really big director…but I haven’t been able to figure out who it is yet”. Good news for the film, but not necessarily for Jake – whose words might be toyed with. “The problem is, that whoever this big director is, apparently fancies himself a bit of a writer-director. I do know that it’s my script that they’re going off, but that’s about it…
The self-confessed “amazing idea” he came up with for this latest film, “Halloween : The Missing Years”, involves filling in the mislaid days of Michael Myers formative years. “I wanted to breathe new life into the franchise…something new”, says Wade Wall, explaining that we never found out much about what happened to Myers before he first escaped the mental institution as a younger.
So would Jamie she Lee Curtis be involved in the new movie? “No. Didn’t she get her head chopped off or something in the last one? What I wanted to do was to say, forget about all of those old characters. This is about Michael. There will be new characters – new kids. And it will be set around Michael’s real home ‘Smith’s Grove’, which is where the asylum was, some 150 miles away from Haddonfield”.
Speaking of everything Michael Myers, Robert ‘Freddy’ Englund has apparently been trying to convince New Line and Dimension to team up on a Freddy vs. Jason vs. Michael movie, but the Akkads, the owners of the ‘Michael’ character – and consequently, the “Halloween” series – aren’t going to play ball. “The Akkads are very protective of Michael. They’re amazing people…I don’t think it’ll happen”, says Wade Wall.

"It's Finally Here: Tales from the Crypt's 'Ritual'!! Get more on Reviews | Posted 05.02.06 @ 11:23 am ]
Seriously guys, how ridiculous of a wait was this? I know the first two Tales from the Crypt movies didn't perform well, but what did they think? "Maybe if we stick the film on the shelf long enough, there will be a time we can eventually release it theatrically..." Some of the **** that goes on this industry blows my mind (ahem The Wood). Today Dimension Films finally unloads on Ritual, the third and finally Tales from the Crypt feature film. If you're a fan of Wes Craven's Serpent and the Rainbow you will definitely get a kick out of it. "

"Michael Biehn talks Grind House Posted by Clint Morris on May 3, 2006 In a podcast over at his fan club site, 80s icon Michael Biehn confirmed that he is indeed part of the ensemble cast of Rodriguez/Tarantino’s “Grind House”, and that the film has indeed shut down temporarily – but not for good, as others have reported.
He has to return to Texas later on, around June, to shoot “a few more scenes” for the film, says Biehn. Meantime, he’s going to shoot another movie.
“It’s been an absolutely amazing experience on Grindhouse. love Robert Rodriguez and Quentin Tarantino. Rodriguez is an immensely talented guy…and I think it’s just going to be an amazing movie.
Meantime, whilst “Grind House” is on momentary hold, Biehn is going to Europe to re-team with his “Art of War” co-star Wesley Snipes for the actioner “Shooter”. Following the five-week shoot, he’ll return to Texas to finish the former.
"Shooter" - from Lighthouse, who are currently prepping "Showgirls 2"- will see Snipes play an ex-CIA operator who is reactivated in order to take out a renegade agent.
Thanks to 'Joel'"
Grindhouse is still on with Rodriguez? Yes!

Showgirls 2 will rock if it's done seriously, so we can all laugh our asses off. Any movie with Biehn and Snipes, even DTV ones will ROCK, since they're go to action stars!!! A Michael prequel will be cool, but it has to be done with SO LITTLE GORE OR BODY COUNT, it has to be about the terror, not titties and shocks. I still want a Nightmare Prequel MOST.

It better be, because if I see the words of any WBer or former child star who's slumming it with a titty scene, I won't go to see it.
Friday and Nightmare can do the whole humour and gory shit stuff and it can work and be fun, but Halloween has to be psychologically dominating, not a musicvideo of tastelessness.

The Hitcher is such a great, violent, gritty ass horror movie that shouldn't be fucked with and they've changed the protagonist from a guy to a chick and I don't think they're be the same degree of uncomfortability to it.
I love the first with Hauer and Howell and I heard a rumour that there's a 3 hr cut somewhere which would be insane. I don't think this movie needs a remake.
Wanna see a "remake" of sorts, that still rocks, check out The Forsaken or Joyride, they're both entertaining, violent as shit road flicks with killers.

"New 'Re-Animator' Trilogy Begins in the 'House' Get more on General Horror | Posted 05.09.06 @ 01:45 pm ] It has been awhile, but things are finally rocking in the world of the 'Re-Animator'. Fangoria reports that the previously announced White House-set sequel, House of Re-Animator, will reteam the original’s Brian Yuzna, Stuart Gordon, scripter Dennis Paoli and stars Jeffrey Combs and Bruce Abbott. “We want to cast big on this one,” Yuzna tells Fango. “If we get the budget, we want to have great supporting actors. Stuart is going to talk with William H. Macy, who just did 'Edmond' for him, to play the President of the United States.” The big news though is that 'House' would be followed by two additional 'Re-Animator' sequels to form a new trilogy (which we broke the news as a rumor here back in September of '05)! A fourth Re-Animator would be AMAZING. I own all three, but the third one was really poor and hokey and just not the same as the first and even second one.
I'm down for as many of these as long as Combs is in them. It will be funny and gory as fuck, just better have more Gordon input, because Yuzna's work isn't on that same level. It would be so sweet if they made a new trilogy of movies, but they better not just use CG, I'd like to see more barebones gore.
Takashi Miike's stuff is so fucked up, but he's a pretty cool dude. As far as this Argento film, he's the biggest hit or miss helmer this side of Wes IMO and alot of his stuff is really interesting or fucking dull.
I'm watching my Phantasm DVD w/ audio commentary by Coscerelli, Scuimm, Baldwin and Thornberry and it's pretty cool. Fuck I love the first three in this series. They made so much bank on NO BUDGET and they look gorgeous.

I loved the first one and have such a respect for Don's work as an indy filmmaker and ecclectic voice, since he's so out there and entertains no matter what. I'm so down, but I'd rather see a FINAL Phantasm!

OH MY CHRIST, Anguish starring Zelda Rubinstien from Poltergeist is such a sick, sweet and awesome horror movie, they'll totally fuck this movie up, but WTF?
Universal Pictures Picks Up Anguish Source: Variety May 10, 2006
Universal Pictures has picked up Anguish, a pitch by Jake Wade Wall based on the 1987 Spanish horror film, Anguistia.
Variety says Roy Lee and Doug Davison are producing through their Vertigo production company, with Bigas Luna, George Ayoub and Vertigo's Sonny Mallhi executive producing.
The original film, directed by Luna, was a horror-movie-within-a-horror movie. As an audience in a small theater watches a film about an optometrist on a killing spree, a maniac begins killing the moviegoers.
Wall wrote the When a Stranger Calls remake and has also penned The Hitcher for Rogue Pictures and Platinum Dunes and Amusement at Picturehouse.
