The Trailer Park: ICP's 'Dark Carnival' Anthology! Get more on General Discussion | Posted 05.15.06 @ 08:01 am ]
If you head on over to the official website for SOTA Productions, you can watch the teaer trailer for Insnae Clown Posse's (ICP) The Chronicles of the Dark Carnival horror anthology! The creator reveals details of the completed episodes: “The first [one] I directed is called ‘Mad Professor,’ and stars Greg McDonald. It’s basically about a serial killer, who’s taking a body part from each of his victims and using them to build a ‘Frankenstein monster.’ The father of one of the victims is tracking this guy, and he catches up with the killer, and in the end there is a confrontation between the three of them. Walter Phelan [who portayed Dr. Satan in HOUSE OF 1,000 CORPSES] plays the creature, so that was pretty cool! It’s kind of the serious, evil entry. The second episode, ‘Boogie Woogie Wu’ [also directed by Knyrim], is more of a LOST BOYS/THE GOONIES type of thing,” he continues, “with kids fighting a ‘bogeyman’ in their closet.”
Might suck but then again it might be a fun little project.

Halloween prequel, now a sequel? Posted by Clint Morris on May 17, 2006 Another switcheroo for the next “Halloween” movie…. it seems.
According to HorrorChannel.com, Jake Wade Wall’s script for the next “Hallwoeen” movie will not be the one being used now, apparently.
“Wall’s script will not be the basis for the new film. His idea took place in the years before Michael escaped from Smith’s Grove Sanitarium, which would be a cool idea if it weren’t for the noticeable lack of Donald Pleasance”, says the site.
“We can now tell you that the new Halloween, which will likely be officially announced any day now, will take place at Smith’s Grove Sanitarium but will not be a prequel. It will be full-blown Halloween movie, complete with the trademark mask and slow gait.”
Sure it may not be a prequel but it's still in Smith’s Grove.

Freddy (Poseidon) Rodriguez, Rose (Scream) McGowan and Josh (The Dead Girl) Brolin will star in Robert Rodriguez's "Planet Terror," a 60-minute zombie movie to be accompanied by a slasher film directed by Quentin Tarantino and released under the title Grind House by Dimension Films, according to Variety. As previously reported Dimension will bow "Grind House" -- a tribute to the '70s exploitation films that influenced both directors -- on Easter weekend next year. This past Easter saw a record-breaking holiday weekend for Dimension with the release of "Scary Movie 4." Casting hasn't officially been announced for Tarantino's "Death Proof," which is now filming in Los Angeles, CA. Marley Shelton, Michael Biehn, Jeff Fahey, Michael Parks and the Black Eyed Peas' Stacy Ferguson round out the cast in "Planet." The two pics will be surrounded by faux trailers created by Tarantino and Rodriguez

Lionsgate Entertainment said it will release the third film in its successful "Saw" series Oct. 31 with a substantial publicity campaign, including the release of a special director's cut DVD package earlier in the month, according to the Hollywood Reporter. Saw III began shooting May 8 in Toronto and should finish by the end of June or early July. Although the studio would not confirm budget figures, they are rumored to be more than $10 million -- more than the first two films combined. Directed once again by Darren Lynn Bousman, and scripted by co-creator Leigh Whannell off a story by James Wan, the film stars Tobin Bell, Shawnee Smith, Bahar Soomekh, Angus Macfadyen and Dina Meyer.

El Superbeasto will be voiced by Tom Papa, his sister Susie X will be voiced by Sheri Moon Zombie and the robot Murray will be voiced by Brian Posehn. The film will be produced by Tom Klein, with Rob Zombie serving as exec producer. IDT Entertainment Sales is handling international distribution. Oddly enough this confirms reports that Giamatti is a horror fan, maybe he will join the Bubba Ho-tep sequel?

2002 Maniacs? Posted by Clint Morris on May 30, 2006 The South will rise again.
Word has leaked into the canals of the ‘Hole that those “2001 Maniacs” might be gearing up for another barbecue.
Tim Sullivan is rumoured to be returning as writer and director for a sequel, with Robert Englund likely to reprise his role from the first outing, as our charming rogue.
In “2001 Maniacs”, eight college students travelling to Florida for Spring Break stumble into a remote town in Georgia where they are set upon by the residents whom are out to avenge their deaths by Union troops over 100 years earlier during the Civil War. Englund plays Mayor Buckman, head nasty and all-round meat eater.
No doubt the sequel – “2002 Maniacs”, perhaps? – will see Buckman terrorizing a new group of oversexed college students….with a little help from his friends.
More as it comes in.

It's the full trailer, not a teaser and has lots of footage including Jordana Brewster... and the infamous dinner table scene!" I guess this means you guys will be seeing it onlione any day now! In a remake of the 1973 British horror thriller of the same name, Nicolas Cage plays a reclusive sheriff who goes to search for his estranged daughter after she mysteriously disappears on a secluded island. Sony Screen Gems Brings Back 'The Stepfather' Get more on Sony | Posted 06.05.06 @ 11:48 pm ]
Sony Screen Gems is really getting under my skin... I think their publicity department is fantastic, phenomenal for that matter, but how bad are their remakes? Seriously? Look at the laundry list of wasted remakes: The Fog, When a Stranger Calls, The Grudge and more coming. So everytime a new remake is announced over at Screen Gems, I think an angel dies and my heart breaks. Sure the numbers do wonders for our genre, but who cares when the horror fans don't like the horror movie? Anyways, tonight it was announced that the Gems' next remake will be of the 1987 classic film The Stepfather. Read on for the skinny...
Variety reports:
Screen Gems has acquired remake rights to 1987 horror pic "The Stepfather" for Greg Mooradian and Maverick Films to produce. In the original "Stepfather," which was based on a true story, Terry O'Quinn ("Lost") plays a seemingly normal man, who wants the perfect family. When they don't measure up, he eliminates them and moves on to find his next perfect family.
New pic is being produced by Mooradian and Maverick's Mark Morgan and Guy Oseary. Robert Green of Granada exec produces.
Mooradian, Morgan and Oseary also are producers on Fox 2000's "Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief," based on the children's book by Rick Riordan.
Maverick's slate includes remake "My Sassy Girl," being produced with Vertigo and Gold Circle Films, and "The Stanford Prison Experiment."
Screen Gems' upcoming releases include "The Covenant" and "Vacancy."

'Alien vs Predator 2' a Serious, Gritty Horror Film?! Get more on Alien Vs Predator | Posted 06.08.06 @ 07:52 pm ]
it was confirmed yesterday that visual effects pros Greg and Colin Strause have been hired to direct Alien vs. Predator 2 for 20th Century Fox. No other details were known at the time other than the film is aiming for an August 10, 2007 release date. Fingers were crossed that Paul W.S. Anderson would have nothing to do with this sequel (so far so good) -- and this could be the end of both franchises if it doesn't perform. Today Variety made the announcement official, while also scoring more details and worth from the Strause brothers. Read on for the skinny...
Shooting is skedded to begin in September for a summer 2007 release, according to Variety.
"Armageddon" scribe Shane Salerno, who rewrote the original "Alien vs. Predator," wrote the script.
"We really want to take it back to the original 'Alien' and 'Predator' films and make a serious, gritty horror film," Colin Strause said.
"We want to take it back to its roots, without losing sight of the human struggle," added Greg Strause. "That's what made the originals so good."
Davis Entertainment's John Davis and Robbie Brenner are producing. Davis Entertainment also produced the first film in the franchise, as well as "Predator" and "Predator 2."
The Strause brothers own Santa Monica-based visual effects house Hydraulics and have extensive visual effects credits on films including "Titanic," "The Day After Tomorrow" and "X-Men: The Last Stand." They've also directed commercials for Toyota, PlayStation and Coca-Cola.
Their relationship at Fox with newly upped exec VP of production Alex Young was instrumental in bringing them over from f/x work to feature films.
Salerno sold his spec "Reckless" to Fox and is working on an untitled Mark Gordon action pic for the studio.
The geek in me will see it if it goes along smoothly. A gritty film? Fuckign A
Platinum Dunes' 'The Birds' Remake... Not a Remake? Get more on Exclusive News and Reviews | Posted 06.08.06 @ 03:48 pm ]
We're all so quick to jump the gun, get pissed off and scream bloody murder - especially when it comes to remakes. But sometimes we fail to remember the source of inspiration and make quick assumptions (we all know what that makes). Awhile back Platinum Dunes, the boys behind the Texas Chainsaw Massacre and Amityville Horror remakes, broke the news that they'll be making their own version of The Birds, which was instantly dubbed a remake, while the fact of the matter is it's really just another adaptation of a short story by Daphne Du Maurier. Read on for a little word about what we can expect from the new film...
During an interview with Platinum Dunes' Brad Fuller, Elaine Lamkin asked: There has also been talk that Platinum Dunes may remake Hitchc ock’s “The Birds” – again, would this be a remake or a reinterpretation and where are you in the production process?
Brad responded, "We are considering remaking “The Birds”, but our remake is not based on the Hitchc ock film. It is based on the Daphne Du Maurier short story. So while the concept of birds attacking will be the same, the plot is totally different from Hitchc ock’s film. We are currently in the process of developing the script."
Does this justify the film? I think so... I'm ready to hear more! Watch for the full interview this weekend.
I have no words.

'Hostel 2' on Fast Track, Details Revealed! Get more on Hostel | Posted 06.09.06 @ 11:00 am ]
After Eli Roth's Hostel (review) slaughtered at box offices, Lionsgate was quick to announce that a Hostel 2 would be on the way in no time. Details were slim, but the goal was to have it out a year from that day with Eli Roth writing and directing once again. Over the course of the past few months Eli has expressed that his main interest is getting star Jay Hernandez to return, which will now happen, but none of the plot had been revealed. Today MTV posted a massive article, which reveals not only a synopsis, but a January 2007 release date. Read on for the skinny...
MTV writes:
This week, Roth briefly emerged from a Howard Hughes-like exile to storm the MTV Movie Awards, an appearance so last-minute that someone else's credentials were hanging around his neck.
While sneaking a long-overdue peek at the light of day, Roth was all too eager to offer his fans some details.
"I shaved today for the first time in three weeks because I haven't left my house — I've been working on the script for 'Hostel 2,' " Roth reported. "I don't think 'Hostel' is gonna be winning any Oscars, so it's nice that we got a Best Frightened Performance nomination for Derek Richardson."
Those who've seen the movie will remember Richardson as the dude who gets his Achilles tendons sliced open. Because of that and the ensuing bloodiness, let's just say that Richardson wouldn't be the best person to ask about sequel possibilities. Roth, however, is looking forward to his second chapter.
"I'm writing 'Hostel 2' for girls — it's going to be three girls this time," he revealed. "They're studying in Italy for the summer, and they get lured, and they go back to ... well, we're going to go back to a lot of familiar places."
Through the existence of this Italian hostel, Roth plans to reveal that the Slovakian stopover from the first flick is actually part of a chain — kinda like a Motel 6, but with decapitations instead of a continental breakfast.
"It's all part of the organization; they've got the whole thing set up all over the place, and they have different scouts," Roth said. "We're going to learn a lot more about how it all works. In 'Hostel 2,' you're really going to see the ins and outs of the whole organization and how they get people and kill them."
"And there will be plenty of blood and torture," he added with a sadistic grin. "I can tell you that."
"Hostel" didn't leave a lot of actors' story lines open for sequel possibilities, but Jay Hernandez did survive — at least, most of him did. Roth happily reported that Hernandez's Paxton has been written into the film and will be encountering the three girls in Italy.
"Jay has a few less fingers, so it might be difficult for him to blend in," the director said. "But yeah, he's not out of the woods yet."
Roth's script begins the moment the original "Hostel" left off, a tribute to the similarly timed second chapters of his beloved "Halloween" and "Porky's."
" 'Hostel 2' is going to start literally with the next cut, and you're going to see [Paxton] at the same time. You'll see that he's totally messed-up from the experience. It's completely wrecked him, and his life is in ruins."
Hernandez will express his mental collapse in some of the tossing-and-turning scenes Roth is composing.
"You know, when they have a sequel, and you see the guy and he's having nightmares and can't sleep and is going crazy," the filmmaker said, sounding as if Hernandez might finally turn into the villain Roth wanted him to become in an early draft of the original flick.
Although he has spent most of the last few weeks alone, Roth has made time to once again solicit some advice from an equally twisted mind.
"Quentin [Tarantino] was really helpful when I told him the story idea. I was like, 'What do you think about this?' and he's like, 'Oh man, what if we did it with girls?,' " Roth said of the "Hostel" producer. "I saw Quentin last night, and we started to talk about some different death scenes, and anytime I'm like, 'Oh, what if we killed someone like this?,' he's got three other different ways to kill them. When he reads the script, it inspires a bunch of things."
Roth hopes to begin shooting in August and to release the film in January 2007.

Third 'Saw' movie vows more shock
By STEVE TILLEY - Toronto Sun
TORONTO - It takes a while to puzzle through what it is we're looking at, here on the Toronto set of the low-budget, high-concept gore-fest Saw III.
Deep in the latest warren of deathtraps conceived by murderous mastermind Jigsaw, behind a door painted with the words "here's your chance," the device standing in front of us looks like a crucifix fashioned out of steel beams, clamps, cables, motors and gears. There's blood (or the special effects version thereof) pooled around the base of it, and a few chunks of disturbingly lifelike ersatz flesh.
Arms get strapped in here, feet get wedged in there, head goes inside this clamp contraption. But what are the gears for? When this thing is powered up, won't the gears just rotate the clamps in place and make the victim's ... oh. Okay. Got it.
You know the famous scene in The Exorcist, where Linda Blair's head spins a full 360 degrees? Imagine a contraption that does that to you without the benefit of satanic possession. And to your arms and legs, too, twisting them in their sockets until flesh, muscle and bone rip and snap like wet tree bark.
Jigsaw, you're a sick, sick man. But that's why moviegoers love you so.
Saw III, which wraps shooting this month at Toronto's Cinespace Film Studios, is a homecoming of sorts for the monstrously successful horror franchise.
"We shot Saw II here in Toronto, in the same studio, same crew. So by now it's like family," said Leigh Whannell, co-creator of the Saw franchise with fellow Australian filmmaker James Wan.
"It's another day at the office, breaking people's limbs off, body parts flying everywhere," Whannell said last week during an interview on set. "It's good times."
The affable Aussie's demeanor belies the unspeakable stuff going on a dozen metres away. Literally unspeakable - access to the set is strictly controlled, and no one's talking about the film's array of deathtraps and plot twists, for fear of spoiling the fun when the film hits theatres this Halloween.
Other than the clampy contraption, all we are shown are the sets for Jigsaw's creepy, mannequin-festooned lair and a decrepit meat packing facility (complete with disemboweled hogs hung from hooks) where much of the film takes place.
Then we're hurried off the set, though we can hear director Darren Lynn Bousman call "action!", followed by the high-pitched whine of a drill. And screaming. That can't be good.
This much we know about Saw III: The terminally ill Jigsaw (Tobin Bell) is determined to play one more sick game with a new group of victims. With the help of his protege (Shawnee Smith), Jigsaw has kidnapped a beautiful young doctor (Bahar Soomekh) to keep him alive while he leads a grieving father (Angus Macfadyen) into a new den of horrors.
The hero's peril is much more than physical, though. Jigsaw's chosen victims are the people responsible for death of Macfadyen's character's son. He can choose to help them escape Jigsaw's devious deathtraps, or sit by and watch them die slowly and very, very painfully.
The grisly shoot is taking an emotional toll on Macfadyen. "When you're doing these things, you think, 'Jesus, these things actually happen for real, there are people who do the most awful things to other people,' " he said.
"And you go, 'How can you do that? How does someone take someone's head and shove it into a bathtub full of feces and drown them in it?' I just don't get it."
Fans don't seem to care. The first two Saw movies were made on a combined budget of about $6 million US, and took in more than $130 million at the box office, plus tens of millions more on DVD. Bousman, who also helmed the last film, has high hopes for number three.
"I would say the most tame parts of Saw III are (equal to) the most extreme parts of Saw II," he said.
"It's going to be interesting to see if we get away with half the things we're shooting right now. I'm even offended looking at what I'm shooting at the moment."
Eh, will be the same, hopefuly the last(though Lionsgate wants to do atleast 5)
