Angle vs. Henry: Royal Rumble 2006...possibly the greatest match I've never seen. Could these two guys be any greater? Maybe if their names were Bastion Booger and John Cena. Now there's a match for the ages.

I'm still surprised that a lot of people are going for Austin/Rock XIX rather than X-7, but whatever.

Yeah, I prefer Rock v Austin at WM XIX myself, however, X7 is the better match in terms of what it represented and the enormousness of the occasion that it created.

I'm still surprised that a lot of people are going for Austin/Rock XIX rather than X-7, but whatever. Rock Austin at Wrestleania XIX is the most perfect form of sports entertaining I have ever seen. The Rock, in his most entertaining run ever, was magnificent. His posing, posturing and general cockyness throughout the match was classic and got his character over in all the right ways. Austin whilst not at his best, due to circumstance, was perfect as the fighting face, timing his comebacks and mini-combacks perfectly, in order to keep the crowd on their toes. Both men, had the crowd in the palm of their hands, and not in the conventional ways of great wrestling, they took entertaining and story telling to whole other level on this night. Honetly, its just the most perfect hybrid of storyteling and entertaining I have ever seen. Whilst their wrestlemania X7 encounter was undoubtoubly a better match in terms of actual wrestling and what it represented (i.e. the end of attitude), that ending, although shocking and perhaps nessacary pissesme off to this very day.

Okay I'm ending it here as I don't think we'll get anymore.
Results are in the process of being counted
Yeah, the screwy ending stopped it from being the perfect match, in my opinion. Even a screwy finish that comes out the blue and produces a result within seconds would've worked better.
I don't like how Vince walks down, and then, Austin and he just knock the seven shades of shit out of Rock for a few mins before getting the pinfall. Thus, the result is a foregone conclusion and the suspense is gone.
It would've been better if he's come out the crowd, nailed Rocky then Austin got the pin all in seconds and then they could shake hands. That way the crowd would still be getting over the shock.
A clean win would obviously have been the best, though.

While I prefer the ending to XIX, X-7 was a better match and just meant more. Austin joining up with McMahon is just so symbolic: it represented the one thing you would've never expected to happen, Austin selling his soul because he knew he couldn't beat The Rock.
McMahon vs Austin WAS the Attitude Era. They were the antithesis of each other. And the ending to X-7 was the best example for the Hegelian Dialectic in sports entertainment: thesis meets antithesis, becomes synthesis; the latter being the Power Trip, the most powerful tag team perhaps of all time.

Like I say Ofegend, there is no denying that the mania X7 bout, was the better match and the more historically significant, I just prefer the entertaining thrown up in their mania XIX encounter as opposed to the steely focus of the X7 match.
I do agree with the fallout being magnificent though; the conciliation of Tripple H and Austin, i.e "The power trip," was as you rightly say the most powerful combination in pro wrestling since pehaps the original four horseman.
In spite of all these consequences, as a stand alone bout, I still take the mania XIX encounter every time.

Fair enough. I was on the edge of my seat throughout the whole X-7 Rock/Austin match, so I'm probably reading too much into it.

No I don't think so Oflegend, to tell you the truth I'm also surprised at the amount of people who prefer their mania XIX encounter. I honestly thought I stood alone in my prefernce of the third bout, I've been flamed many a time, for this particular opinion.

That match has always been a particular favourite amongst this collection of people, myself included.
I'm sure all the groups of wrestling fans in their different forums have certain characteristics, opinions or whatever that make their group slightly different from the next one.
As an example I'd say this group has less Hart fanatics and more Michaels/Kliq followers/sympathisers than most IWCs, has an all round keen interest in Japanese wrestling and is fairly cynical in general over TNA.
Just examples but I'm sure you get the idea.

That's my favourite match for all the reasons Elvis mentioned, but I'd also lilke to add that 'The Mania of Wrestlemania' helped me get a little more emotionally invested into the match. I mean, Austin was having a heart attack of some sort and woke up that day in the hospital, and the emotion he has knowing it's his last match... it's like a real-life movie. Very emotional.

the reason i like the wrestlemania 17 match more is because the whole show was better , for me it was the greatest mania of all time the ending was brilliant people was talking about it for a long time and the next night on raw austin vs the rock steel cage match , hhh joins austin , amazing lol. plus austin was a better wrestler back then in my opinion.

Yeah I know exactly what you mean. His music came on, he rode to the ring, took what seemed like an eternity to dismount his bike, and then finally got to the ring! I'd have met him with a chair shot long before then, i.e. Briscoe and Patterson running to meet Austin at Backlash 2000. What gets me is when the music hits, "As I lay me down to sleep", JR is is all "What the hell is this?" but none of the McMahon-Helmsley Faction seem to notice. Could argue that they were too busy beating the hell out of The Rock but that doesn't really wash. They all just stood back while Triple H gave him a pedigree onto a chair. They should have done something then.

Just throwing this out there after watching it on Bret Hart's DVD extras, but Hakushi/Hart at In Your House 1 is fucking phenominal and a gem of a match. It's the perfect blend of Hart and a fabulous highflyer and has some perfect moments. It's on my Top 20 for sure, but I simply recommend you guys check it out!!!
