Yeah I know exactly what you mean. His music came on, he rode to the ring, took what seemed like an eternity to dismount his bike, and then finally got to the ring! I'd have met him with a chair shot long before then, i.e. Briscoe and Patterson running to meet Austin at Backlash 2000.
In spite of that, I still think the match shits on HHH/Foley.
@euan: Michaels/Hart ironman is another match that I feel is vastly overrated. Good match, but the critiscisms you level at it, bring it down massively in my opinion.

The reason Cactus Jack vs HHH makes my list is that it seemed like one of Foley's last stands: you could sense his time was running out. And yet, it was flawlessly put together, extremely well timed, and in my view the clean win solidfied HHH as a dominant heel champion.

I agree, Of Legend, I didn't bother to defend it, but its in my list which I pompously feel is infallible.

OfLegend: Thanks, at least they're are reasons I can respect. I totally agree with the clean win soldifying Trips as a legitimate and dominant heel.
I'm still not to sold on the match though, I'll have to watch it again.
Euan: Lol (Keep in ming I usually ROFLMAO or Hahaha, so a lol from me is agood thing).

Yeah, watch the match a few more times. It is slow, but I doubt that would put off a cultured fan such as yourself. It makes for extremely compelling viewing.
And Rene, how come Triple H/Rock from Backlash 2000 made your top ten? It was a good match, sure, but there was constant interference from referee Shane and manager Vince, and the title change relied entirely on Austin and Linda sticking their noses in.

How come nobody gave props to the Jericho/Benoit ladder match other than myself?
I would go as far as to say it's the "best ladder match ever"!

I actually watched it last night to re-confirm my thoughts before posting my list.
I find that there's always more to the match than you can remember, and when you re-watch, its value comes through.
To Mr Blonde- As I said, there are so many that just miss out IMO, that match being one of them. Hence why I plan on doing some re-watching and producing a top 50 with descriptions of each to go with it.

I understand what you're saying Euan.
In the next few days, I want to have maybe a thread discussing the "BEST MATCH EVER" in everyone's opinion of course and then explain your reasonings and break down what makes the match so great. Mine isn't a WWE or F match, I'll post it later, but hint, there's a quick rollup finish, pure athleticism and sportsmanship.

Mr Blonde, that best match ever thread sounds like a brilliant idea.
All IMDb vetrans will probably know mine already.

I'll deffinately do that Of. I think the fact that I ain't watched the match for a while may have skewd my memory slightly, I'll get back to ya'll on that one. Of, I also went for the backlash match. It's no secret that the match was way overbooked, however in terms of strorytelling, sports entertaining and storyline advancement I don't think there are many, if any, better than this one.

I'm not so sure about a best match ever thread unless you limit it to just WWE. The fact that a large portion of the best matches in the world took place in All Japan Pro-Wrestling in the 90's, which nobody here watches, means a list with little credibility from the very start.

That is true Brightside, and I did mark out for the ending, but I thought the Iron Man match was just so much better. And in defence of the latter, that was a very difficult finish to pull off. Michaels' positioning was vital.

It furthered the Rock/H feud perfectly, and was just an awesome match. Those two had great chemistry, oerhaps the best out of the three of them (Austin included).

I'd agree with that. HHH/Austin from No Way Out 2001 wasn't even my match of the night.
I still wouldn't put Backlash tenth, but it's your list.

It's tough, because as I put them in, more cropped up. I was actually worried by the amount of recent matches in there, but I realised that Attitude was shit, and only 96/97 was worth watching in WWF history.

Rene, I had the exact same problems, plus I kept seeing the same few names cropping up time after time. It's a head doer picking favourite/best matches.
1998/1999 as far as actual wrestling went, sucked to the high heavens. Ther was honestly only about 3-5 matches of any real quality. I can't believe I actually managed to get two matches from that period in my list.
