It's a great match but not worthy of a full 5 stars. ****1/2 I'd generously give it. Iron Man Matches: HBK/Hart - ****1/2 Rock/HHH - ***** Lesnar/Angle - ****3/4 HHH/Benoit - ***3/4 HBK/Angle - ****1/4 I honestly prefer Rock/HHH the most. The shit thing about Angle/Lesnar was that they booked it for TV. I mean what the fuck was going through their minds? Awesome bout, but why the fuck do I want to see Lesnar go 4-2 up on a recap after advertisments?

Eww.
Well I finished re-watching an old Ultimo Dragon compilation tape I bought from Highspots.com over three years ago. First time around watching I was a bit of a puroresu newbie(hadn't even watched heavyweights or joshi yet) and didn't assign any star ratings, so this time around was a bit of a different experience. Its even more enjoyable then it was the first time. A few ****+ matches against Jushin Liger, Great Sasuke and Shinjiro Otani and a sweet **** WAR tag match featuring Otani, Koji Kanemoto and Masao Orihara. Overall, a fantastic own for Asai fans... and for those of you whom have only seen his WWE work..this tape you should convince you that he's far more than that.

I would have put the Iron Man match on Summerslam 2003, but there was no time because of the Elimination Chamber later that night.

I have Angle/Lesnar as the worst. It was just a mess from start to finish.
Anyway, and somewhat ironically.
Kurt Angle vs Brock Lesnar (c) vs Big Show Vengeance 2003
Some nice spots, including Angle and Lesnar chokeslamming Show, and Lesnar pulling the front bump from the German Suplex (surprise!) out.
Show hitting the chokeslam after thirty seconds kinda killed the match, and the fans were dead for the most part. The attempt at building suspense to the inevitable Angle/Lesnar showdown (first face-off since WM 19) bombed, and the crowd was silent until Angle won.
Show wasn't the weak link here, as everyone spent time out of the ring but no-one really impressed.

It's because it was the season premiere, or something. Or an anniversary show. I really can't remember, I recall nothing about the bout, except that I was unimpressed at the time.

Davey Boy Smith & The Dynamite Kid vs Joe Malenko and Dean Malenko Late 80s/Early 90s, New Japan
Stunning tag team match, this, the best I've seen in a long time. Some excellent spots that aren't a bit contrived and flawless mat wrestling make this one look almost legitimate, a rare find in this day and age. You'll find some really entertaining reversals in here, even if you're not a fan of technical wrestling (which I am), including a brief angle where Billington and Dean exchange full nelsons in between roll-ups, backflips and and arm drags.
Joe Malenko looks especially impressive here in exchanges with both his opponents, causing me to wrack my brains trying to remember why he quit to become a chemist: he looked just as skilled as Dean. Davey Boy is, as ever, essentially a powerhouse with no mean but no special technical skill, but he's on top form too, mixing it up well in the counter stakes. The highlights for me though are when Dean and Dynamite hook up, mainly because that is an absolute dream match for me between maybe my top two favourite workers.
Deano Machino works over Davey Boy's leg, which leads to the match's main flaw: a lack of proper selling for any length of time. But, it being a Japanese junior-heavy tag, the point of the match is a purely athletic contest, and it doesn't disappoint on this level. This isn't about finishing moves (no swandives or cloverleafs to be found) but holds, quick submissions and roll ups. The finish is quick, crisp and realistic, coming fittingly just after the bout reached its crescendo.
Overall, what ROH matches for the most part try to be, and fall short.

WWE European Championship - Davey Boy Smith Vs Owen Hart - Raw 1997
Great match up from two fine athletes. Goes for 15 minutes. Davey wins to become the first ever European Champion.

WWE European Championship - Davey Boy Smith Vs Owen Hart - Raw 1997Great match up from two fine athletes. Goes for 15 minutes. Davey wins to become the first ever European Champion. Rating: **** I think I have that on a tape, its a good match but this isnt the match that crowns the first ever European champion. They had a match in Berlin, Germany that crowned the first ever champion.

At the end of the match and throughout, Mcmahon said all this stuff on the winner being the first European Champion.

Just watched the Hardy/Edge Unforgiven cage match (on a suggestion from Brightside). Must admit that I came in a little skeptical Hardy but he impressed as did Edge and I was thoroughly impressed with it.

Low Ki vs KENTA ROH: Final Battle 2005
Both these guys worked very stiff with some of the sickest kicks, chops and slaps (yes slaps) that I have ever seen. Twice during the match Ki flew into the air and he landed a stomp almost going straight through the torso of KENTA. Both men weren't afraid to take the stiff shots and bumped all over the ring. Much like Satoshi Kojima against Homicide, the Japanese native KENTA provided some humor. He sprung over the top rope and completely missed the fallen Ki. It looked like a botched spot but was served to set up for a back heel to the face of Ki. The ROH crowd was manic as usual.
I would give this match ***1/2.

WWE World Tag Team Championship - Shawn Michaels and Stone Cold Steve Austin Vs Owen Hart and Davey Boy Smith - Raw 1997
A forgotten classic Tag Team match if anything. Although this didn't go that long, these two teams delievered. Some technical wrestling and some brawling makes a great match. HBK and SCSA win it at the end. This is a tag team match you have to see.
Rating: ****1/4

Crush Gals vs Jaguar Yokota & Devil Masami - 2/3 falls - 1984
Fuck! this puts just about everything that WWE was producing back then to shame. Not just a great womens tag match but an all round great tag team match.
Very interesting spots. Boston crabs, torture rack into a back breaker, back suplexes from the top rope, double underhook from the top, gorrilla press slams, sit down powerbombs. This has it all.
Great wrestling tag match. Well worth a look.

Shawn Michaels vs Undertaker, IYH Ground Zero, 1997
Michaels is God (well Savage is, but Michales can borrow the accolade). There is no-one, and I mean no-one in WWE history, who's made Taker look so good, on such a regular basis. Screw Angle, screw Hart, as "good" as their matches with Take were, they weren't jack on what Michaels got out of him here, at Bad Blood and at the the 1998 Royal Rumble.
His bumping was Henning esque on this particualr evening, as from the very start he was determind to get Taker's offence over as brutal, which he did as only Michaels is capable. Through continuous demolishing of officials, both men got the story and the psychology across brilliantly; they weren't bothered about winning the bout, asthe feud ran deeper than that, it was about a sever hatred the pair had built for one another following Michaels "unintentional" chair shot that cost Taker the title at that years Summerslam. And due to this disragard for the officials, and fovus on the hatred, the emotion was as good as I've seen from Taker bout, not as strong as their HIAC, but still mightily close.
Some may say the match was slightly overbooked, with Rude, Chyna, HHH and the costant referee bumps seemingly stunting the flow, but whaen you think that this was all a set up toward their HIAC, you realise that the booking was a essacary evil, and hence makes it more than acceptable, in fact i adds to the match as far I'm concerned.
There wasn't much in the way of wrestling in the bout, but the story told, the psychology conveyed, the enertaining brawling and the superb booking made it, for me, one of the best brawls I've seen in a long, long time. Awesome stuff.
Michaels is (a) God.
Rating: ****1/4
*This could easily change to ****1/2 on another viewing

Yes he is, Brightside...& it'll be a damn shame when he finally decides to retire. On a more positive note, however, I just got done watching: Shawn Michaels vs. Ric Flair (Badd Blood 2003)For some reason, this is one of my favorite matches...& even though I remember it going on a lot longer than it actually does, it's still a good match. Michaels carried Flair to an awesome contest...complete with a crossbody/moonsault though a table, on the outside, which was most certainly the highlight of the match. The only thing that ruined it was interference from Randy Orton, & a less than convincing chair shot to Michaels...thus giving Flair the victory. I still enjoyed it immensely, however, & I encourage anyone who doesn't remember it to watch, just for the fuck of it.

1st: Brightside that Ground Zero match is a favorite of mine as well; you gotta loved Shawn's outrageous bumping.
Anyway, I watched the first half of Stan Hansen vs Vader, including the part where Hansen knocks Vader's eye out. I never thought I'd find a more gruesome wrestling clip than Sid breaking his leg . . . but damn! Heh, I should show that to some folk I know, and see how "fake" they think it is then.

Team USA (Stone Cold, Goldust, Ken Shamrock, and The Legion of Doom) Vs The Hart Foundation (Bret Hart, Owen Hart, British Bulldog, Jim Neidhart, and Brian Pillman) - In Your House: Canadian Stampede
Truely a great match. 25 minutes of some great action. Most of this was a brawl, but there was some technical wrestling as well. Owen Hart pins Stone Cold Steve Austin with a roll up for the win. Afterwards, a fight breaks out with all the Hart bros and team USA. Great match, definitely one of the best Tag Team matches of all time.
Rating: *****
Though the match was probably around the ****3/4 level, the emotion and the hot Canadian crowd helped make this *****.
On second viewing, this is only ****1/2.
