The Punisher takes on Jigsaw Posted : December 1, 2006 Writer : Clint Morris Newsarama waxed lyrical with Jonathan Hensleigh, director of “The Punisher” – for the new “Punisher : Extended Edition” DVD – who offered the atypical annual update on the long-gestating sequel.
“We’ve been planning one. We’ve been working on one for about two years”, says Hensleigh. “I think we’re going to do it. I think there’s a high likelihood that we’re going to do it. There are many issues involved in the sequel. One has been the timing between my schedule and Thomas Jane’s schedule. The major one has been the content of the script and we’ve been wrestling with script issues for two years now. In other words, normal Hollywood stuff. Once those script issues are resolved and I think they’re going to be resolved very quickly, I think we’re going to make another one.”
Hensleigh revealed that ‘Jigsaw’ will be the villain, and that the new film will be set in Manhattan.
“The storyline is original but a lot of the situations and the character Jigsaw, of course, is from the comic. But the story arc itself is original. Let me give you some insight into the script problems. The script problems, again, mostly relate to budget. Lionsgate wants a very intense urban action film but at the same time there’s not a corporate will to spend an enormous amount of money on the film nor should there be. This is a specialty film with a very rabid but smaller canvas. So what we’re trying to do is figure out a way to shoot a really intense urban action film with lots of violence and lots of intense, gritty action for a price and that involves a lot of script work. You’ve got to figure out how to do big, extravagant, action-based stuff but do it for cheap. We’re probably also going to have to shoot in a weird place.”

I didn't mind Daredevil, but a sequel isn't looking good. Affleck has said he'd do it if Smith was on board but Smith doesn't want involved. Last i heard if there ever was a sequel it would go staright to video.

He's Marvel's answer to Batman. I want more.

Foxx escapes Cage Posted : December 5, 2006 Writer : Clint Morris There’s one Marvel comic book movie that hasn’t been in a rush to hit the theatres – considering most superhero flicks are announced and consequently, released, within three weeks of one another this is quite exceptional – and that’s the long-gestating “Luke Cage”.
The favourite for the role of the crime fighter has always been Tyrese Gibson (“The Transformers”), but in recent months, it was revealed that Oscar Winner Jamie Foxx had also had a couple of discussions about the movie.
In an interview with IESB, Foxx says you can now strike his name out of the contention box.
"I don't think [it will happen]," the actor said. "Sometimes you've got windows to do things, and if you do it cool, and if you don't do it, let it go."
With John Singleton still attached to direct the movie, it’s likely that Tyrese Gibson –who worked with Singleton on “Baby Boy”, “2 Fast, 2 Furious” and “Four Brothers” – will indeed still get a look-in when the film gets off the grassy nole and closer to a projector. It’s believed a second draft of the script was recently turned into the studio.
The comic book adaptation is about a former gang member who is framed for a crime he didn't commit. In prison, he volunteers for a medical experiment that goes awry, giving him super strength and bullet-proof skin. Using his newfound powers, Luke Cage escapes and becomes a hero for hire.
Cage is one of my favourite charecters of all time so if they fuck this up i'll be pissed. First off i am not a fan of Gibson, Foxx nor Singleton. If they want a good director then get Mario Van Peebles, he knows blaxplotation, and it would be kick ass. Further proof go se Baddasss.

Doc Savage, The Shadow & The Avenger in one movie? Posted : December 7, 2006 Writer : Clint Morris Still 18 days until Christmas, but the presents have already started to pour in.
Get your mitts on this little beauty: Sam Raimi is going to make a film that’ll team-up some of the pulp heroes of yesteryear, like The Shadow, The Avenger and Doc Savage. Better than a pair of undies with your initials on them, right?!
According to FilmForce, the “Spider-Man” director has inked a deal with Street and Smith Publications – the troops who put person to page on the abovementioned series’ and more – to bring some (if not all) of the legendary characters to life on the big screen. Yep, it’ll be a Justice League of sorts.
Here’s an extra gift on top of that news: Raimi isn’t just producing, or overseeing the project, he’ll be directing it too.
Hollywood has dabbled with the Street and Smith characters before – they cast Alec Baldwin in a film version of “The Shadow” in 1994, and tried to get a “Doc Savage” – which Arnold Schwarzenegger would’ve starred in – movie off the ground a few times too.
Thanks to ‘Stax’
Fucking awesome.
BTW i re read 300 today, hope the film is good.

follow up
The Shadow Strikes Back Posted : December 11, 2006 Writer : Clint Morris Though it mightn't be Alec Baldwin donning the nose and charcoal hat - as was the case with the 1994 film - "The Shadow" is returning to cinemas.
Sam Raimi and Columbia Pictures will team up to produce a new film version on the cult comic character. The "Spider-Man" helmer is expected to only produce the film at this stage.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the film is the first of several Street & Smith properties that Raimi plans to bring to the screen. He's also eyeing ventures for, among others, "Doc Savage" and "The Avenger".
Columbia has set Siavash Farahani to write the screenplay.
"The Shadow" debuted in 1931 on a CBS radio show which aimed to boost the magazine circulation of sponsor Street & Smith. The character was actually the moniker for the announcer, and listeners began demanding stories based on the name.
Walter B. Gibson created the character, writing the adventures of a crime-fighter who skulked in shadows wearing a hat and cape, and who had the power to cloud men's minds.
The Shadow became one of the greatest pulp heroes of the time, and the radio series, which featured a young Orson Welles, spawned the catchphrase "Who knows what evil lurks in the hearts of men? The Shadow knows!"
The character proved a merchandising bonanza, was the subject of seminal comic books, and influenced an array of pop culture, from Batman to "V for Vendetta."
The character moved to the screen, becoming the hero of several movies in late '30s and '40s, a Columbia cliffhanger serial starring Victor Jory, and a couple of TV series in the early days of television.
The Shadow's most recent incarnation was a big-budget 1994 feature from Universal starring Alec Baldwin and directed by Russell Mulcahy. The movie didn't fare well at the boxoffice, quashing a hoped-for franchise.
A "Shadow" movie has long been a dream project for Raimi, and the crime-fighter's influence can be seen in Raimi's 1990 movie, "Darkman."
"I've been a passionate Shadow fan ever since I was a kid and have long dreamed of bringing this character to the screen," Raimi said. He is not attached to direct at this time.
After "Spider-Man 3" opens in May, the future of the Raimi-directed mega-successful franchise becomes an open question. Star Tobey Maguire has not committed to doing more. And Columbia is relishing having Raimi's cinematic fingers on another action hero.
"We're thrilled to be re-teaming with Sam as he brings another legendary comic book character to a new generation of fans," Columbia president of production Matt Tolmach said. "This property is in the perfect hands."
Two Words : Bruce Campbell. Shadow.
Sounds good. Get a decent screenplay, right star, and you've got a pretty good flick.

Is Ryan Reynolds still The Flash? Posted : December 15, 2006 Writer : Clint Morris Speaking to Coming Soon, Ryan Reynolds revealed that it’s not certain that he’ll still be playing speedy superhero The Flash, as planned – but he is still interested, kinda, if the opportunity arises.
Reynolds has been attached to the film since David Goyer, who directed the young actor in “Blade Trinity”, asked him to do it a couple of years back. And though the film looks like going ahead, Reynolds’ latest comments suggest he could’ve been talked out of it.
"It's a hundred and eight billion dollar movie if they do it. I don't know how that stuff works and I don't really get involved with it”, says Reynolds. “I think if they do it, they're going to see it through the eyes of Wally West and its inanimate world. I can hear people falling asleep while I'm talking about this. I honestly don't know. It's just such a huge undertaking. I'd love to wear a red unitard sometime, but I can do that on my own."
The actor has also been mooted for roles in several other comic-book pics, including “The Sub-Mariner”, so he’ll go the unitard one way or another.
I like Reynolds but i'm not sure if i can see him in the role. I am a David S. Goyer fan though.

Dimension Films has made a deal to turn the super popular Michael Allred-created comicbook Madman into a live-action film, according to Variety. George Huang (Swimming With Sharks) will direct a script he'll pen with Allred. Robert Rodriguez and Elizabeth Avellan will produce via their Troublemaker Studios banner. "Madman" is a post-modernist reimagining of the Frankenstein tale, with a superhero twist. Read on for the skinny.
Variety reports:
Dimension Films has made a deal to turn the Michael Allred-created comicbook "Madman" into a live-action film.
George Huang ("Swimming With Sharks") will direct a script he'll pen with Allred. Robert Rodriguez and Elizabeth Avellan will produce via their Troublemaker Studios banner.
"Madman" is a post-modernist reimagining of the Frankenstein tale, with a superhero twist. Title character, killed in a car accident, is reanimated by an eccentric doc who names him Frank Einstein and instills in him enhanced senses, psychic power and exceptional physical skills. The doc can't fix his creature's face, so Madman wears a costume modeled after his fave superhero to hide his scars.
Project, spearheaded by Dimension co-chairman Bob Weinstein and production prexy Richard Saperstein, will follow a template similar to "Sin City," which Troublemaker produced and Rodriguez directed with creator Frank Miller for Dimension.
As with that film, the creative behind the comicbook is an active part of the creative process. And, like "Sin City," "Madman" will be shot entirely at Rodriguez's Troublemaker Studios in Texas.
Rodriguez, who's readying a "Sin City" sequel, has wrapped "Planet Terror," his half of Dimension Films' "Grindhouse," to be released April 6. Quentin Tarantino, who's directing the other half, "Death Proof," will finish shooting in January.
Rodriguez has been trying to adapt the "Madman" comic for several years and felt the creative combination was the right one. He and Huang have known each other since Rodriguez's debut film, "El Mariachi," landed at Columbia and Huang worked at the studio. Huang was a creative consultant on Rodriguez's "Spy Kids 3."
"George has always had a really great grasp of the books, and Michael is just about the coolest guy you'll ever meet," Rodriguez said. "His Madman comics are nothing short of visionary."
Allred, who created props for "Planet Terror," is launching new series "Madman Atomic Comics" through Image Comics
OMG fuckign geeking out, fuck yes. This is the best news i've read, great comic, i've been awaiting this film for awhiel.

aicn Is The FANTASTIC FOUR 2 Trailer Going To Be Amazing? Wait... Is the FILM Going To Be Amazing?!
Hey, everyone. ”Moriarty” here.
Obviously it's too early to know if this film is going to improve on the original, but let's just say that after what I just read, you’ve got my attention, Fox.
There were things I liked about FANTASTIC FOUR. The way they handled The Human Torch was one of them. I thought Chris Evans got the joke, and the effects work was top-notch.
This teaser trailer was not in front of the print of NIGHT AT THE MUSEUM that I saw tonight. And that disappoints me. Maybe it’s because it was an IMAX print.
Anyway... check out this description of it!! The quote below is just a sample:
“The cool approach that Fox has taken with this is to show a single scene - or at least an extended portion of a scene, as opposed to the usual barrage of quick cuts associated with action trailers (kind of like the trailer for last summer's The Devil Wears Prada, which I think was also a Fox film). We start at the wedding of Sue and Reed, with actor (and comic book fan) Brian Posehn as the preacher. Suddenly a silver streak splits through the sky. Reed directs Johnny to flame on and follow the object. The rest of the teaser is a high speed chase between Johnny and the Surfer. ”Eh, sounds cool if just for Posehn. www.aintitcool.com/node/31055 Looks cool www.aintitcool.com/node/31057See the last thing i said.

Batman joins forces with Ray Charles? Posted : January 11, 2007 Writer : Clint Morris Castrate me like a “Hard Candy” character - - - this is the craziest bit of “Batman” casting scuttlebutt I’ve heard since well, the one about Clint Eastwood and his dentures playing old-time Bruce in a cinematic take on The Dark Knight Returns. But you never know…
Referring of course to today’s murmur over at Batman On Film, which states that Oscar Winner – and ‘Go to Jamie first, if he’s not available, we’ll take Denzel’ guy – Jamie Foxx (“Ray”, “Dreamgirls”) might be in line to play D.A Harvey Dent/Two face in the next “Batman” movie, “The Dark Knight”.
The site says they’ve been hearing rumours that the Brother’s Warner want to cast big for this role, and aim a little higher than usual, so this definitely fits in that hole.
Though comic book buffs will no doubt be up in arms concerning the potential casting of an African American actor as a white character – from the comics, anyway – all they’ve got to do is cast their mind back to 1989, when ex-“Empire Strikes Back” scoundrel Billy Dee Williams played the character. Not so pale, either, right?
More conventional favourites for the role –this week, anyway – are said to be Eion Bailey (“Mindhunters”, “Centre Stage”) and Edward Norton, though the Norton rumour is apparently less concrete. Since Bailey tested for the role of Batman a few years back, I’d say he’s in with more of a chance than all of them (same thing happened with Cillian Murphy – he tested for the role of the Caped Crusader, but was later asked to come back and play the Scarecrow) but what do I know, Beyonce may come in and snag the role next week.
Not a big Foxx fan but idk, it might work.

I'm interested in The Shadow and Doc Savage films to an extent, but The Flash and the Sub Mariner can fuck off. Agreed, for the most part. I could see Flash doing an appearance in another movie, but not so much one on his own. I'd still watch it if it were to happen though. As for Doc Savage, as long as they did it seriously this time, I'm all for it. Movies aside, I need/want to know, which do you prefer Sub-Mariner or Aquaman? On the subject of characters that shouldn't have a movie. Could anyone else see them actually making Unus the Untouchable for Cena's next movie?
