Jackson holds a record of 26-6-0. Straight off the bat, you can dismiss seventeen of his fights due the piss-poor quality of his opponents. Seven of his fights occurred against opponents who had never fought before, seven of them held minus records, I believe two of them had narrow margins (as in, 7 wins, 6 losses, that kind of thing). He is one of the most overrated fighters in history.
Of the credible fighters he did beat, you have Kevin Randleman, who lost six of his next eight fights and was suffering Frank Mir sydrome (recently been involved in a car crash, never quite recovered). Igor Vovchanchyn, who was fighting with a cracked rib, Matt Lindland, who fights at a lower weight-class, Murilo Bustamante, who was drafted in as a last minute replacement for Ricardo Arona, and Arona himself, who was schooling Jackson until the SLAM~!.
Wanderlei Silva fucked him up twice, as did Mauricio Shogun.
Liddell had just failed in his first bid to win the UFC Light Heavyweight Championship a few months before fighting Jackson. Rather than take time off to iron out the flaws in his game, which had been so brutally exposed by Randy Couture, Liddell announced his participation in the PRIDE Middleweight Grand Prix.
Why? Either because Dana White forced him to, or because he was trying to find a quick route back to the top (another fight with Couture and redemption in the UFC). Either way, his heart was simply not in it, as evident by his shoddy first round knock-out of Alistair Overeem.
During this time, he’d also lost half of his training camp (his former training partner was his soon-to-be next opponent; Tito Ortiz), and the only person he seemed to have any interest in fighting was Wanderlei Silva, completely overlooking everyone else in the tournament, including Jackson. The rumour that he fought Jackson with a fractured hand has never been confirmed or denied, but a puncher with a broken hand is like a male porn star without a cock.
Jackson beat Liddell in the exact same manner that Couture had done. Worth noting that Couture was unable to do it the second and third time, nor will Jackson.
The fight represented the peak of Rampage’s career and the lowest-stage of Liddell’s. Since then, Liddell has gone from strength to strength, Jackson has gone downhill. It was a crossroad for both. Jackson even admitted, after his UFC debut, that he isn’t ready for Liddell, and he’s right.

I still mark for Nathan's avatar being a not-so-subtle message to Cowards.
