Who's gonna win?

Tim Sylvia, but I think it will be close.
He is the biggest joke in mixed-martial arts today, the king of a nothing division (until Cro Cop signed for the UFC). He upset Ricco Rodriguez to win his first UFC Heavyweight Championship, before being suspended for using banned substances, which pretty much explains how he managed to beat Rodriguez. If it wasn’t for the fact that Josh Barnett and Randy Couture had previously retired, leaving the division in a complete mess, it’s doubtful Sylvia would’ve been considered for the shot in the first place.
Upon his return, he was gifted an opportunity to face Frank Mir for the belt, and lost. He really didn’t deserve that shot. It wasn’t until Mir was sidelined with injury that Sylvia got a third undeserved shot at the vacant belt, only to lose to Andrei Arlovski, who was only 6-3-0 at the stage in his career, and not particularly impressive.
Arlovski has improved, but barely makes my top ten heavyweights, yet Syliva required two fluke victories to beat him. He publicly challenged Fedor Emelianenko, then backed out when Fedor accepted the challenge. He then reissued the challenge, only to back out for a second time. He is also routinely booed by the crowd, to add insult to injury.
Losing to a 43 year old, regardless of who that man is, is pretty much the final nail in his shitty career. Under normal circumstances, I think Couture has a very good chance of victory, but Sylvia knows his career is over if he losses. It should inspire him to give 110%, and snatch the win. It won’t mean much, and victory over a 43 year old is hardly going to change the public perception of him.

For some reason I see Couture coming out on top.
What is your opinion on Rashad Evans? I think he is a very good fighter, and can reach the top. His fight w/ Sean Salmon was impressive on Fight Night 6, and the way he won with that awesome kick was also good. Plus he's 27, and has a MMA record of 15-0-0.

Couture def. Sylvia via anominous decision (50-47) (50-47) (50-47) to become new Heavweight Champion!
The whole event sounded really good.

A truly remarkable turn of events.
Randy Couture is awesome, and his victory makes Chuck Liddell look like a God for beating Couture twice, with relative ease, only for Couture to bounce back and win the UFC Heavyweight Championship with the same apparent ease.
I pretty much agree about Evans. I’ve not seem many of his fights, but he seems to have a lot going for him. Like you said, he’s only 27, and probably a couple of years away from his career peak.

I didn't watch the fight or anything, but I must say that Nathan, you have the wrong HBO TV show in your avatar titled as Best Ever. While Oz is easily one of the greatest shows of all time, The Wire's greatness eclipses it.

Although Couture may be 43 years old, he was born for MMA. He has the natural talent for it. The only reason Sylvia ha anything to do with MMA is because of his size. I am quite happy that Coututre won although I think that Cro Cop looks like the next heavyweight champ as I can't see Sylvia winning if he gets a rematch.
As for Rashad Evans, I like this guy. He is a pretty good wrestler and his boxing skills are all good. As has been said he is only 27 and has a long time left in him. He is quite a small heavyweight and can also trim down to 205 lbs.

I’m not sure if Sylvia gets a rematch clause. Hughes and Couture didn’t when they lost to St. Pierre and Liddell.
He’ll probably face Cro Cop next, for the right to challenge Couture. Cro Cop should beat Sylvia with ease, but tends to bottle it when it matters. If he does win, Couture vs. Cro Cop will be awesome.

I really wanted Lytle to beat Hughes, it was a very good fight from what I heard. Basically, I heard all the main fights were really good and the event as a whole was excellent.

Couture~!
Just watched the fight, and the guy was awesome.
Honestly though, Sylvia would need a tank to beat Cro Cop.

Glad Couture picked up the win with a good performance. Seeing him wearing gold is a better picture then Sylvia. I'm just waiting in anticipation for a Cro-Cop/Couture showdown.
