Right, regardless of derrogatory remarks made towards him by fellow professionals and a small minority of the IWC, this guy's popularity in general seems unwaning.
What I want to know is why is this? I often hear people claim that Styles was just the one that got lucky, but again, why was this? What was it that set him apart from his contempories, and or the rest of the X division?
There is a distinct lack of personality amongst the X divisioners and most cruiser's in general, so what I don't get is what exactly got AJ over. I understand he has an exciting moveset, but don't most cruisers/X divisioners? So why did the fans gravitate towards AJ?
Having only just started to take an interest in Feds outside of the WWE, I missed out on what it was that set AJ apart from the crowd, so if anyone could clue me in, it would be of great help.

I think it's the moves he pulls, seriously. And he's been pushed to the moon.

Plus AJ has been around the X Title since it's inception. He had a great feud with Jerry Lynn in TNA's early days that established the X Division. Plus as JJJ said, he is pushed to the moon. Being TNA's only triple crown winner.

All very true.
From the perspective of those who enjoy spotfests, Styles is one of the very best at what he does.
The push to three reigns as NWA World Heavyweight Champion has given him more exposure on all levels, not just the X-Division.
It's also worth noting that he's the kind of guy who is going to be very popular amongst female wrestling fans before he even does anything (my last two girlfriends only watched wrestling because of him and Cena). As for kids, they love him because they are told to.

AJ is pretty much seen as the most exciting and talented of the X divisioner's. It was him and Jerry Lynn that made the X Division famous with their brilliant feud in TNA's baby days, and because of that it put him over with the fans and pushed him towards a NWA World title run (His 1st run didn't do so well cause he was stupidly booked as a heel. His 2nd and 3rd runs didn't fair much better cause they lasted little over a month). So despite a lack of charisma fans of all ages just love him because of his wrestling (ala Benoit and Mysterio in WWE).
As for the other X Divisioner's Christopher Daniels, he's pushed hard because he's a well respected worker, a veteren and someone young wrestlers look up to. Samoa Joe of coarse because of his size, his shoot fight style and becasue he can easily be booked as a monster. As for the rest they all pre-dominently jobbers or lower mid-carders. The only ones that really come close to their level would be Chris Sabin because his style is a lot like AJ's and fans see him as "the second AJ" but because he's so young (he's only 22), I don't see him getting see him getting to that level until another 2 years. The other would be Petey Williams he has the most exciting finisher in the biz and is a good technical wrestler aswell as a high-flyer and is close to Scott D'Amore, but again because of his young age (he also is only 22) he won't reach their level for probably another 2 years. The lesser knowns ones like Elix Skipper, Sonjay Dutt, Matt Bently etc. they're only really useful for high-spots and jobbing to the heavyweights.
By the way, there's rumours going around that Samoa Joe and AJ Styles are pushing for TNA to sign Matt Sydal.

Who the fuck is that? I think I've heard of him in ROH. I'm not sure.

Matt Sydal? Yeah I've only seen him perform once in ROH so I obviously can't judge on just how good a worker he is but apparently, Joe, AJ, Daniels and CM Punk all rate him really highly. At the fan fare of Internationel Showdown, Punk described him as "awesome". Here's a pic of him... www.mpwrestling.com/promopics/mattsydal.jpg

He looks like your typical Mid-Carder/X division competitor

It has to be his level of push, like people are saying. Because there's absolutely NOTHING that seperates him from all the other 20 year-old white x-division guys.

Apart from the fact he's better than them.

I disagree whole heartedly.
Shelley is better, as is Roderick Strong.

I agree. I also prefer Austin Aries.

That's why Generation Next should dominate the X Division. They could be the top heels while you have guys like Sabin, Dutt, Bentley and any others challenging them. It seems Styles, Joe and Daniels are starting to outgrow the X Division.

Yeah, it's almost as if Joe/Daniels/Styles is choking the division, because only they get tv time and promoage.
The others are left to meaningless tag matches.
I say bring in Goldberg to take all three out, then job to Aries clean.

Is even Samoa Joe a match for The Mule Kick of Doom?
I know Bret Hart wasn't.

As good as both of them are, they ain't got shit on Styles. To me they both like born jobbers.

Yeah, it's almost as if Joe/Daniels/Styles is choking the division, because only they get tv time and promoage. I agree with that completely. It seems like the X Division always seems to be some kind of combination of Joe, Daniels and Styles.
