I was so looking forward to this match. It was interesting because of several reasons.
1) The quality of the match had great potential.
2) Would Cena be cheered or booed in this face-vs-face matchup? Cena gets different reactions each week and Benoit always gets respect by the audience.
3) How WWE would book the match and how strong each one would come out looking after the match.
Unfortunately WWE treated the match poorly. It had great intensity, as Cena can (almost) match Benoit at that level. The action was crisp and flowed well.
But it was far too short! This resulted in;
1) Cena's flurry of offence looking very weak next to Benoit's (I'm sure WWE didn't sllow Benoit to apply the Crossface because the STFU would look far too weak next to it).
2) Chris Benoit came out looking bad. Tapping cleanly in 6 or 7 minutes didn't make sense seeing how strong he's been booked lately. The short lenght of the match made Benoit look weak more than it made Cena look strong.
The match could have been a ppv quality Raw main event. If they didn't want to use the full potential quality of the match (something I would disagree strongly with), at least they shouldn't have wasted this face vs face, champion vs champion, cross brand match like this.
They could have easily scrapped some of the pointless stuff earlier in the show, or the whole women's match.
The little smark inside me has something to say too:
"Fuck you Vince for jobbing out perhaps the best worker ever cleanly via submission in under 10 minutes to that mediocre wrestler with his worthless offence!"
